1987 Virago 700 cc with carburetor issues

daveyboy
Hi,
I'm new to this site, but  was wondering if anyone else has encountered problems with their carburetors.
I bought the bike when it was 6 years old and owned it for approx. 3 years when it started to run poorly and plugs kept fouling.
After taking it to several shops, one mechanic told me the air passage o'rings in the carbs were shot. Has anyone else encountered this problem.
Can it be fixed with the carburetor re-build kit that's currently on the market, or do I need to replace the carbs?
The mechanic told me the o'rings cannot be purchased as separate parts.

Dave,

Take a stroll over here to see the Dr. Piston archives that should help you understand the carburetors on your bike.  Once there just scroll down to the carb. info. you need.

You also need to go on line to some Yamaha Dealer websites and see for yourself if the O-rings can be purchased separately.
You may also be able to get Metric O-rings from your friendly Harbor Freight Store.  They have a box of miscellaneous O-rings for about $8.00 U.S.D. as of this writing.
